Latest news on the UN Disability Rights Convention

On 6 May 2007, Anne McGuire, Minister for Disabled People, updated Parliament on the progress the UK is making towards ratifying the Convention this year.

The update was provided in response to a request from Parliament's Joint Committee on Human Rights. At the same time the Government published its response to the committee's report on adults with a learning disability, ‘A Life Like Any Other’.

Independent Living Strategy Consultation

The Independent Living Strategy was launched on 3 March 2008. The five-year Independent Living Strategy is jointly owned by six government departments. It was co-produced with disabled people and organisations of, and for, disabled people. It sews together over 50 government commitments into a co-ordinated approach that seeks to realise equality for disabled people.

Consultation on the monitoring and implementation of the Strategy runs until 20 June 2008.
