Equality 2025's work on education, disabled children and young people

Equality 2025's work on education, disabled children and young people

What is Equality 2025 doing?

Members have responded to the Government's independent living review with reference to young people and their particular needs.

Members ran an event for disabled children and young people on 12 February 2007 to find out how best to involve them in work with Equality 2025.

An accessible guide to the transition process was written as a tool for young people who needed help to understand the process. On 18 July 2007, members met with Claire Philips, Head of Policy at the Office for the Children's Commissioner to talk about the inclusion of disabled children and young people in the 11 Million Campaign.

On 30 April 2007, members met with DFES and Treasury representatives from the services for disabled children review to talk about monies for forums for disabled children and young people.

On 21 May, Zara Todd spoke at the 'Disabled Children - a new Priority' conference. Members working in this area of focus also attended the launch of the Government's 'Aiming Higher for Disabled Children - better support for families' report at 11 Downing Street.

Members who are involved in this area of work are Richard Rieser, Tara Flood, Simone Aspis, Miro Griffiths, Zara Todd, Rowen Jade, Dave McCormick and Michelle Daley.

If you would like to suggest an idea or make a comment to central Government about the above, or if you would like to talk about any other early years, education, disabled children and young people and transitions issue that you think the Government could do something about, please contact us: info@equality2025.org
