Equality 2025 engaged with disabled people in the North East

On 17-18 July 2008, Equality 2025 hosted a regional meeting where over 100 disabled participants attended, travelling from the sub regions of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and the Tees Valley to give their views. It was held in partnership with the Gateshead Access Panel, a local disabled people’s organisation and the North East CVS Equalities Coalition.

Facilitators from the Equality 2025 Network, the Office for Disability Issues, Gateshead Access Panel, the North East CVS Equalities Coalition and Promethean World (who provided the electronic voting technology) all worked in partnership to make this a lively, interesting and enjoyable day.

Views from disabled people were sought on topics with a series of 20 questions gathered from six different Central government departments covering:

Responses were recorded with a unique combination of handwritten responses and the use of an electronic voting system. This method of collecting views had a mixed response from the delegates.
