What does Equality 2025 do?

Equality 2025:

  • Asks disabled people for their views on issues that affect their lives.
  • Is committed to working alongside government to involve disabled people in policy making to improve the lives of disabled people.
  • Focuses on working for the benefit of all disabled people including hard to reach groups and those who do not call themselves "disabled" but are covered under the Disability Discrimination Act.
  • Works within an annual budget which determines our priorities.

Current Workplan

On 5 June 2008 the ministerial group agreed to our 2008 to 2009 workplan.

How we wrote the 2008-9 workplan

We looked at the areas that disabled people had told us were important to them.

We talked to the different government departments in charge of those areas, and discussed how Equality 2025 could help to improve what they are doing for disabled people.

We focussed on those areas which we know are important to disabled people, but also where we know we can have a real effect on what the government is doing.

The workplan tells what we are going to work on, and what we want to achieve. The aims are ours, not necessarily those of the Government, but we are confident that government departments will listen to our advice because we have already talked with them and they have welcomed our involvement.
