Background - Radio

Reaching disabled people through the radio

Radio can be useful as part of the communications mix. While it will be inaccessible to people with hearing impairments, many people with visual impairments get much of their news from radio programmes.

'Insight Radio' is an example of a station produced specifically for those with visual impairments. Whether you are producing editorial or advertising, it can be helpful to mix radio with other channels likely to reach deaf audiences - for example the television programme `See Hear'.

`You and yours' on Radio Four has a high proportion of stories targeted at disabled listeners. You could consider targeting it as part of a media strategy for particular campaigns.
