Improving the Life Chances of Disabled Adults

One Day Conference

Monday 7 July 2008, London

Supported by Office for Disability Issues

Chaired by Mike Smith, Disability Committee Member, EHRC and Chair, National Centre for Independent Living

The Independent Living Strategy has placed the government’s ambitious vision of achieving disability equality by 2025 firmly on track.

The benefits of social mainstreaming and personalized services within adult social care have been well documented. However, the 2010 target date for establishing user-led organisations in every local authority is fast approaching. Capita’s National Improving Life Chances for Disabled Adults Conference presents a cross-cutting agenda to address the most urgent gaps in provision for promoting opportunity with disabled adults.

Targeted sessions include

  • latest government policy, featuring a key review of welfare reform taking effect from October 2008
  • improving access to meaningful long-term employment, training and lifelong learning
  • engaging employers, adult education providers and housing services to deliver better standards of choice, control and independence
  • successful partnership approaches to identifying and involving disabled people and user-led organisations in the commissioning and delivery of integrated services.

Attend this timely and focused one day conference to examine how the Disability Life Chances agenda is being advanced. Engage with fellow stakeholders who share your commitment to promoting the independence, well-being and security of adults with additional needs.
