Independent Living Review
Independent Living Strategy consultation
The Independent Living Strategy was published on 3 March 2008 and we are seeking views on how disabled people should be involved in the implementation and monitoring of the strategy.
Consultation with disabled people
Our consultation 'Equality for Disabled People: how will we know we are making progress?' asked disabled disabled people, and people affected by disability, what equality would look like and how progress should be measured. We are currently writing responses and will publish them shortly.
Aiming High for Disabled Children: Better Support for Families
In May 2007, the Government announced funding of £340m over the next three years to improve support for disabled children and their families, including £280m to fund short breaks. More information can be found on the HM Treasury website.
United Nations Convention on Disability Rights
The UK was among the first countries to sign the United Nations Convention on Disability Rights in March 2007. Anne McGuire, Minister for Disabled People, signed the convention on behalf of the UK at a ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Compliance audit report
In March 2007 the Office for Disability Issues published findings of our compliance audit report on public bodies equality schemes.
Improving Information for Disabled People
In February 2007, we published a report on 'Improving Information for Disabled People' and a subsequent 'Five principles for producing better information for disabled people' guide.
Equality 2025
The advisory body was set up on December 2006 and had its first public meeting
with disabled people in November 2007.
